Several days ago, the oldest, Venice film festival published the programme of its 76th edition. The president of the festival this year is Lucrecia Martel who, with her team, is going to judge the films in the following categories: "Golden Lion" for the best film, Jury Grand-Prix, "Silver Lion" for the best director, special jury prize, prize for the best actor, the best screenplay, and Marcello Mastroianni Award which will be awarded to the best emerging actor/actress. Kristen Stewart, Brad Pitt, Meryl Streep, Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Robert Pattinson, Johnny Depp, Gael Garcia Bernal, Adam Driver, Scarlett Johansson, Timothée Chalamet - this is the incomplete list of the actors awaited in Venice this year.

Kore-eda Hirokazu's film The Truth, starring Catherine Deneuve, Juliette Binoche and Ethan Hawke has been chosen as an opening film of the festival. The film, based on the relationship of mother and daughter is the first European production of Kore-eda, which will be screened after the great opening ceremony of the festival, on August 28.

The programme of the 76th film festival looks very interesting and it includes 21 films:

Brad Pitt stars in Ad Astra by James Gray, playing the astronaut Roy McBride. The man who leaves to the eternal solar system to look for his long time missing father.

Noah Baumbach's film Marriage Story is sort of a research of the couple on the edge of the divorce, starring Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver. The competition includes also very buzzy project by Todd Philips, based on comics, Joker with Joaquin Phoenix in the leading role. "I have to say it's a really surprising film. It's the most surprising film we've got this year...This one's going straight to the Oscars even though it's gritty, dark, and violent. It has amazing ambition and scope." - noted the festival director Alberto Barbera.

Despite the fact that some film festivals like Cannes for example, are strongly against Netflix, the door of Venice is always open for its production. This year, two films of Netflix will be presented, including Steven Soderbergh's The Laundromat based on the Panama Papers, starring Meryl Streep, Gary Oldman, and Antonio Banderas.

მ85-year-old Roman Polanski, who was socially rejected because of the #MeToo movement, will present his new film in Venice - An Officer and a Spy. For the leading role in the film made about the Dreyfus Affair, Polanski has invited Jean Dujardin. Roman Polanski is the Venice award winning director and he's got a prize for the special contribution to the cinema at the same festival in 1993. He's even made an appeal to fully restore the membership of the Academy, from where he was excluded with Harvey Weinstein for being accused of sexual harassment.

Haifaa Al Mansour is the first woman who's made a film in Saudi Arabia. The Perfect Candidate will be screened in the competition programme of the festival.

The screening of two new series of Paolo Sorentiino's The New Pope will also be held, where Jude Law and John Malkovich play leading roles.

And another important detail: it is known that at the Venice Film Festival, in the section The Horizons, will be held the world premiere of Giorgi Mamulia's The Criminal Man. It is Georgian-Russian production which tells the story of a factory worker, who becomes the witness of the murder. The producer of the film is Suliko Tsulukidze, scriptwriters: Dimitri Mamulia and Archil Kikodze. Starring: Giorgi Petriashvili, Natalia Jugheli and Madona Chachkhiani.

The award of the 76th festival for the special contribution to the cinema will be granted to Julie Andrews and Pedro Almodóvar.

The winners of the 76th Venice Film Festival will be announced on September 7.
